Things to Do on a Budget in Monmouth & Ocean Counties this February 2020

Love is in the air – and there’s so much to love this February with a ton of fantastic events happening in a town near you. Check out the list below of free or inexpensive activities to do with your loved ones all month long.

February 1:

Cheap Thrills Motorcycle Show and Swap (Asbury Park) from 10am to 6pm at Convention Hall. There will be over 70 custom built motorcycles on display, as well as nearly 100 parts and industry vendors. For more information click here.

Freehold Raceway Mall Kids Club – 9am to 10:30am in the upstairs food court, free to attend. There will be activities for kids, crafts, a prize drawing, and free carousel rides. The event is hosted by 94.3 the Point radio. Find out more information here.

Home Depot Valentine’s Kids Workshop – Check out your local Monmouth and Ocean County Home Depot Store and don’t miss their monthly workshop for kids (ages 5-12, accompanied by an adult) from 9am to 12pm. February’s project features Heart String Art. All participants will get to keep their craft, receive a certificate of achievement, a workshop apron and commemorative pin. February 5: Daddy and Daughter Valentine’s Tea Party at 600 Main (Toms River) at 6pm. Enjoy gourmet tea, chocolate chip scones, and make beautiful Valentine’s Day cards together. February 9: The Art of Storytelling at Dorbrook Recreation Area (Colts Neck) from 1-3:30pm. Join an award winning children’s author for an imaginative workshop designed for kids ages 8-11, where participants will create their own illustrated fiction story. February 12: Mommy and Me Valentine’s Tea at 600 Main (Toms River) from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Enjoy spending time with your child while sampling delicious desserts, homemade tea, and making Valentine’s Day cards together. February 13: Jersey Shore Influencers Craft Beer Edition (Freehold) – Doors open at 7pm at iPlay America and the event ends at 10pm. Cost of admission is $20 when paid in advance. Several local breweries including Kane Brewing, Carton Brewing Co., Bradley Brew Project, and Little Dog Brewing Co. will be present, along with a Q&A session with the Asbury Park Press and lots of networking. February 14-16: Wine and Chocolate Weekend at Laurita Winery (New Egypt) – Celebrate your love with wine and chocolate all weekend long! February 15: Manasquan Mid-Winter Beach Run/Walk Party begins at 11am at Leggett’s (217 First Avenue). Advance registration is required, and is discounted up through February 9th. The course is a two mile fun run through town and ¼ mile on the beach. Don’t miss this nice event for the whole family, with a party and awards (including a free buffet) at Leggett’s after the run. February 16: Vegan Pop-Up Shop (Asbury Park) from 11am-5pm at Convention Hall. Don’t miss this cozy food festival with great food, drinks, and fun! There will be over 50 vendors, and tickets are $5 when purchased in advance or $10 at the door. Find out more here.

February 17: Drop in Day at Ft. Monmouth Recreation Area (Tinton Falls) from 9:30am-4pm. School’s out for Presidents Day, stop by for some family fun! The event is open to kids ages 5-10, accompanied by an adult. There will be science exploration stations, crafts/creations to take home, open gym, and more. February 23: Annual Chili Cookoff Fundraiser (Highlands) from 3-7pm at Proving Ground, 56 Shrewsbury Avenue. Don’t miss this annual St. Patrick’s Day Fundraiser for chili lovers! There will be two cookoff contests, the professional contest begins at 4pm and the amateur contest at 5pm. Attendees will vote for their favorite chili! Tickets are $30 and include chili tasting, two beers, and two voting ballots. Find out more details here.

February 29: International Polar Bear Day at Jenkinson’s Aquarium (Pt. Pleasant) from 1-4pm. Come spend your Leap Day with the polar bears! Learn all about this species of bear and how we can protect them from becoming extinct. Find out more here.
