family movie nightSpring is just a few weeks away and we hope with some “luck of the Irish,” the brutal winter will be over and the mild weather is soon to come! Even though many of us are experiencing cabin fever, you can still enjoy a number of free and/or inexpensive activities this month in Monmouth and Ocean Counties with your family and friends.

Sunday, March 2: It’s Belmar’s 41st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade! Starting at 12:30pm, you and your family can enjoy one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in New Jersey. Men and women of the Jersey Shore join together and march up Main Street in Belmar in honor of St. Patrick. The parade is intended to be a showcase for the Irish Riviera and attendees will be entertained by marchers, bands, fire engines, and much more! For more information, call 732-280-2648.

Friday, March 7 – Saturday, March 8: The Walnut Street Theatre’s national tour of Driving Miss Daisy stops at Algonquin Arts Theatre (Manasquan) for two performances. This classic play is a funny, timeless, searing, and ultimately hopeful meditation on growing old, relationships, and loyalty. This iconic tale of pride, changing times and the transformative power of friendship has warmed the hearts of millions. Set against the backdrop of the Civil Rights Era, Driving Miss Daisy tells the story of Miss Daisy and her newly hired Chauffeur, Hoke. Sunday, March 9: Have you been dying to go to dinner in Belmar but can never make a decision? Head on out for a night on the town for Belmar’s 6th Annual Restaurant Tour! Some of the participating restaurants include: 10th Ave Burrito Co., Nichhio Ristorante, Ferderico’s, La Dolce Vita, Jersey Shore BBQ and so many more. Asbury Park will be hosting its 1st Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade route begins at 1pm on the Asbury Park Boardwalk on Ocean Ave and continues southwest towards downtown. The parade is a non-profit event, open to the public featuring marching bands, floats, neighborhood associations, schools, alumni groups, cheerleading and drill teams, roller skaters, bagpipe contingents, scouting groups, dance groups, international organizations, police, fire, elected officials, commercial businesses, and anyone else who wants to join the celebration. Saturday, March 15: This St. Patrick’s Day, get ready to don your festive green attire and have a blast for FREE at Laurita Winery (New Egypt)! Sunday, March 16: Cirque Zíva is coming to Count Basie Theatre (Red Bank) at 7pm for a fast-paced, technologically innovative and beautifully presented new acrobatic show. The large cast and spectacular set designs illustrate the best brand of artistic merit, high production value, and solid commitment to cultural exchange. The cast members are athletes, actors and artists who have studied and trained for their craft since early childhood. Saturday, March 22: Spend some quality time with your mom at the 2014 Ocean County Moms Fair! This is an entire fair dedicated to Ocean County mothers and a great day to come out and meet local businesses and organizations that cater to Ocean County moms. Saturday, March 29: Bring the kids to enjoy an April Fools Party at The Music Man -Singing Ice Cream Shoppe (Lavalette). You will experience an old-fashioned ice cream shoppe with a twist! Waiters who are your performers, will sing and perform an upbeat broadway revue for all the guests while you enjoy our sweet and tasty sundae creations. This is family entertainment for all ages. While orders are delivered, music is playing and the wait staff begins to involve our customers in fun spoofs, getting at least one person from each table sing, dance or shout for their ice cream!
