Wednesday, January 1st: Support the Sons of Ireland as they partake in the 2014 Polar Bear Plunge on the beachfront of Asbury Park! Since 2003, the Sons of Ireland have been starting the new year off the right way by helping raise money for four highly deserving local charitable organizations. The event beings at 10am with check-in and concludes at 3pm — the event will have live entertainment including performances from Brian Kirk and the Jerks as well as a traditional bagpipe ceremony before the plunge. Friday, January 17th: Celebrate the King’s birthday at Count Basie Theatre (Red Bank) with the ultimate Elvis tribute show, starring two of the world’s finest Elvis Tribute Artists. Mike Albert is second to none in bringing to life the Elvis of the ’70s, while Scot Bruce looks like, sounds like—and swings his hips like—Elvis in his younger days. Thursday, January 30th: National Theatre Live will broadcast the Donmar Warehouse’s production of Coriolanus, Shakespeare’s searing tragedy of political manipulation and revenge, with Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, War Horse (film), BBC’s The Hollow Crown) in the title role and Mark Gatiss (Season’s Greetings at the National Theatre, BBC’s Sherlock) as Menenius, directed by the Donmar’s Artistic Director Josie Rourke.
